It's a gorgeous morning here in Montpelier. The sun is shining, the mist dissipated early, and the temperature is slowly rising to what should be a lovely high of 75 degrees F. It is feeling a bit like Fall with a few yellow leaves appearing among the many green ones and people walking to work wearing light jackets or cardigans to keep off the morning chill. It's a really beautiful time to be in Vermont, but it's the cardigans that got me this morning, honestly, not the leaves. I found myself paying a bit too much attention to them as I drove through town...wondering about their construction, length, style, etc. And then it happened, as it often does, I began to think about knitting one. Now this isn't really anything new, this past Spring I trained for a marathon planning one knitting project after the next as I plodded along, for months I did this step by step, or stitch by stitch depending on how you see it. (Suddenly running seems awesome, right?) And really, knitting a cardigan seems like a logical thing to do right now. It's certainly the right time of year. I have plenty of ideas for one. I have Elizabeth Zimmermann's book Knit One, Knit All which has some terrific cardigan patterns in it, if nothing else strikes my fancy. Or I've been wanting to do some sort of cabled panel around a neck, actually, with a built on I-cord edge, and then pick up stitches and knit down and create a fun button band while I'm at it. But...here's the thing. I have projects lined up that will take me from here to the new year that are absolutely exciting...so I'm back to my question. What to knit next?
